First thing when you get out of bed is to start your day with a big glass of water – yes even before you have a coffee! Throughout the day have a large glass of water with every meal or just sip away all day, it’ll make you feel energized. Your goal: try to down five tall glasses or 2 litres every day.
Did you know Scientists at Loma Linda University found that men who drank 2L of water were 54% less likely to suffer a fatal heart attack?
Take the salt shaker off the table to remove temptation.
Salt is everywhere in our diets and too much of it contributes to high blood pressure which may lead to heart attacks, stroke & other health problems. Here are two easy ways to reduce the amount of salt in your food:
- Take the salt shaker off the table. It’s hard at first, but you get used to it quickly..
- Try to avoid products with more than 200mg of sodium per serving. Also note how many servings are in a package – that info is on the Nutrition Facts label.
Take five deep, long exhales, three times a day. Feels good, right?

Plan a night out with friends a couple of times a month. Go to a movie, the pub, a walk, bowling anything where you can hang out and have fun. If you can’t plan a night out with the guys then go solo and find an event (hockey game at your local community centre, street fair, music festival) take a class, join a hobby/special interest club anything that gets you out, about and around other people is good for your overall health.
